Mahalo for your interest for an internship at my office. Opportunities are available at both my Honolulu and Washington offices.
Internships are an excellent hands-on way of learning about the legislative process and about the government in general. Interns gain practical work experience by undertaking a variety of administrative and legislative responsibilities in the office. Both interns and my staff benefit from the experience.
Internships are usually awarded to students in their junior year in college, and selection is based on an applicant's general office and computer experience, grade point average, and a short writing sample (500 words on a current topic of your choice). Priority is given to applicants from Hawaii's first congressional district, although all interested persons are encouraged to apply. Please direct your resume and any questions that you may have to the office in which you would like to intern.
For the Washington, D.C. office contact Monica Chapman at (202) 225-2726 or monica.chapman@mail.house.gov and for the Honolulu office please call (808) 541-2570.
Summer internships are available from May to July. The application deadline for summer internships is April 20, 2008. Fall, winter and spring internships are also available.
