  Flags
If you are a resident of the 9th District of Washington, for a nominal charge, my office can provide you with a U.S. flag which has been flown over the Capitol Building. Many request flags to commemorate certain events, such as an anniversary, birthday, retirement, Eagle Scout recognition, or some other special occasion. Because of demand, please allow as much as two months to receive your flag.

Image of Fun Facts
Betsy Ross was reported to have sewn the first American Flag in 1776 During America’s war of independence.
One star represents each state. Each of the 13 stripes, both red and white, represent the original 13 states.
A new star is added to the flag on the July 4th following the entry into the Union of the new state.
Until the Executive Order of June 24, 1912, neither the order of the stars nor the proportions of the flag was prescribed. Consequently, flags dating before this period sometimes show unusual arrangements of the stars.
Anyone can have a flag flown over the Capitol Building by contacting their Congressional Representative's or Senator's office.
The flag is not allowed to touch the ground. When the flag becomes too worn, it is to be burned.
