WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today announced that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will award the Alexandria Central Economic Development District a grant totaling $497,050.
This FY 2004 EDI-Special Project grant will be used by the Alexandria Central Economic Development District for an economic revitalization study and revitalization of the Red River waterfront.
"This project means so much to Central Louisiana and I hope that this grant will help boost downtown development," Alexander said.
"In order to improve our economy in the 5th Congressional District, we have to be more creative and find ways to improve our way of life. By fighting to secure grants like this for the Red River waterfront, we are making progress toward that goal. I will continue to work with the Louisiana congressional delegation to bring more funding to Central Louisiana. Sen. David Vitter and I have often talked about the needs of Central Louisiana and we will continue to fight together to help bring federal dollars to the 5th District and Louisiana."
Jeffrey Hall, chairman of the Alexandria Central Economic Development District, said this grant will help begin a project that will benefit Central Louisiana tremendously.
"On behalf of the Alexandria Central Economic Development District (ACEDD) board, I would like to thank U.S. Rep. Alexander and his staff for working with the board and helping us secure the special project grant funded by Congress under the Appropriations Act for HUD and other agencies," Hall said.
"We also want to acknowledge and thank Senator Mary Landrieu and other members of the congressional delegation, along with State Representative Israel B. Curtis and members of the state delegation for their support.
"The grant amount of $497,000 will be used for revitalization of the Red River Waterfront, so that we can continue developing this important area in the central Louisiana community. This is the first step in a long-range project aimed at enhancing the riverfront for the citizens of Alexandria and surrounding areas."
