Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, will participate in The National Education Association's Read Across America program, where Members of Congress and other elected officials take time out of their schedules to read to students across the nation.
Alexander will visit Cedar Creek School in Ruston on Tuesday, March 29th, at 1:30 p.m. The event will be held in the Cedar Creek Auditorium.
"It is important that all parents take time out of their busy schedules and read to children," Alexander said.
"By reading to children, parents get the opportunity to spend time with their children, while helping them strengthen their reading habits. The NEA Read Across America program stresses the value of reading to children and I am pleased to have the opportunity to take part in this activity."
According to the NEA, over 25 million children, teenagers, and adults participated in the program in 2004. In honor of Dr. Seuss's birthday (March 2nd) Members of Congress have joined in the fun by opening a book and reading it to children throughout the month.
All members of the media are invited to attend.
