Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, announced today that the Ouachita Parish Fire Department will receive a $7,227 fire prevention grant.
The grant will be used for the fire department's "The Great Escape Challenge" program, according to Chief Greg Thompson, fire prevention officer.
"This program will help us educate elementary through middle school students as well as the general public," Thompson said.
"Should there be an emergency, should there be a fire, we believe that this program will enable us to educate students and help them develop a safe meeting place. This program will help us save lives."
Alexander added, "Federal grants such as this one will aid in fire prevention and emergency education. One way to save lives is to educate our students on what to do -- and not to do -- in emergency situations."
