Washington, D.C. - U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, will hold a reception and awards ceremony for the 5th District Congressional Art Competition participants beginning at 5:30 p.m., Sunday, May 1, at the Masur Museum of Art, located at 1400 South Grand, Monroe, LA.
The annual Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, is a nationwide art contest that provides Members of Congress the opportunity to showcase the creative work of local high school students.
Alexander will announce the winners of this year's competition at 5:30 p.m. and all members of the media are invited to attend.
The winner of this year's competition will be allowed to hang his or her work in the Cannon House Office Building Tunnel. Thousands of people use this tunnel on their way to our Nation's Capitol Building and view the spectacular artwork from high school students all over the country.
"This competition allows young artists a chance to put their creativity and talent on display for people all over the country to see," Alexander said. "I encourage all 5th District participants, their family members and representatives of the media to attend our ceremony and celebrate each artist and his or her work."
The Congressional Art Competition was created in 1982 and is in its 23rd year.
