ALEXANDER ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR MONROE HEALTH CARE CENTER $225,000 SECURED IN FEDERAL FUNDING

WASHINGTON -- U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, announced today that the Primary Health Services Center, located in Monroe, LA., will receive a grant totaling $225,000.

The grant will be disbursed by the Department of Health and Human Services.

"Improving health care in the 5th District has been one of my top priorities since I was elected to serve in congress," Alexander said.

"Securing grants like this one will drastically help improve our health care services."

This grant is one of 86 awards totaling over $30.2 million to help community health services increase access to health care for low-income and uninsured Americans, according to a press release from the DHHS.

"The Expansion Medical Capacity grant will increase access to healthcare for low-income residents in the Public Housing Units, who are most likely to experience health disparities such as hypertension, diabetes, and maternal/child health service needs," said Catherine Tonore, CEO of Primary Health Services.

"About 45 percent of the population has been diagnosed with one or more of these conditions. Many people not having access to these services are likely to have the same conditions. These resources will allow Primary Health Services Center to conduct outreach into the community of Public Housing Residents, screen potential patients, and get them into a medical home. PHSC would like to thank Representative Rodney Alexander for his support of health care in Ouachita Parish and his commitment to improve access to health care for residents of Northeast Louisiana."
