Alexander Announces Winners of Congressional Art Contest

First Place Winner’s Work to Be Displayed in U.S. Capitol

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, is proud to announce that Catherine Jeansonne, a senior at Neville High School, won first place in the 26th Annual Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, for her artwork, titled “√-1 = I.”

Hannah Roberts, a senior at Neville High School, placed second with “Broken Bones,” and Leah Mazur, a sophomore at Sterlington High School, placed third with “Leah.”

The Annual Congressional Art Competition, An Artistic Discovery, is a nationwide art contest that provides Members of Congress the opportunity to showcase the creative work of local high school students.

“√-1 = I” will be displayed alongside winners from the nation’s other Congressional districts in the Cannon House Office Building Tunnel of the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. from June 2007 to June 2008.  Thousands of people walk through this tunnel daily on their way to our nation’s Capitol Building.

"This competition is a great opportunity for young artists to put their creativity and talent on display for people from all over the country to see," Alexander said.  "I enjoy being part of a contest that encourages young students to develop their artistic talents."
