Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today announced the following earmarks have been included in the House Appropriations Commerce, Justice, Science Subcommittee appropriations bill (C-J-S).
Alexander, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, worked to secure the following projects:
● East Carroll Parish Sheriff’s Office $80,000
This earmark will be used to purchase new computers and software to replace the outdated software system currently being used by the office.
● Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department $700,000
The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department will receive $700,000 to continue their role in the multi-parish Louisiana Methamphetamine Task Force, an organization which was formed in 2004 to work toward the deterrence, location and destruction of methamphetamine labs.
● Bastrop Police Department $1,595,000
Alexander secured $1,595,000 for the Bastrop Police Department for the purchase of bulletproof vests and other body armor.
“In every community, local law enforcement is responsible for providing safety and order,” Alexander said.
“With these earmarks, many offices in the 5th District will be equipped to continue serving the local citizens.”
The C-J-S bill is expected to be considered on the House floor in the coming weeks. Should it pass, the earmarks will await final approval in the joint House-Senate Conference report. Alexander said it is important to note that these numbers are not final or guaranteed, but their inclusion in the House bill is a step in the right direction toward achieving federal funding for these important projects.
