Washington, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander, R-Quitman, today announced the following earmarks have been included in the House Appropriations Energy and Water Development Subcommittee appropriations bill.
Alexander, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, worked to secure the following projects:
● Ouachita River Levees $1,600,000
Alexander secured an earmark totaling $1,600,000 for the rehabilitation of the existing levees and raising a portion of the levees to the 1956 project design grade.
● Bayou DeSiard $1,707,000
This earmark will go towards the restoration of the ecosystem of Bayou DeSiard in Monroe, La., by reducing aquatic growth and improving discharge from the upper reaches of the bayou.
● Ouachita and Black Rivers, Arkansas and Louisiana
$15,265,000
This earmark will go towards a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ reconnaissance level general reevaluation study to determine the whether authorized cutoffs on the Ouachita River are economically feasible, environmentally sustainable and publicly acceptable.
“This funding will go toward navigational improvements for our waterways infrastructure and commerce,” Alexander said.
“I consider these projects beneficial for not only the 5th District but for the entire state of Louisiana.”
The Energy and Water bill passed the House of Representatives on Wednesday night, and the earmarks will await final approval in the joint House-Senate Conference report. Alexander said it is important to note that these numbers are not final or guaranteed, but their inclusion in the House bill is a step in the right direction toward achieving federal funding for these important projects.
