(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Rep. Rodney Alexander and U.S. Sen. David Vitter today announced that Pointe Coupee will receive a USDA Rural Development grant in the amount of $50,000 to develop a community master plan for the unincorporated areas of Pointe Coupee Parish.
Pointe Coupee Parish was heavily impacted by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, and this funding will enable parish leaders to guide the growth of sustainable economic development and quality of life improvements.
“With the passing of the two-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the Rita two-year mark drawing near, this funding and the project it will enable Pointe Coupee Parish to begin will give a much-needed boost to a region still working to recover to its pre-storm state,” Alexander said.
“As Pointe Coupee and many other regions of the state continue to grow and recover from the impact of the hurricanes, we must look for advantages that foster economic development and stronger communities,” Vitter said, “This federal funding provides Pointe Coupee parish with the much needed assistance to continue that growth.” Pointe Coupee Parish was included in the disaster declarations for both storms.
