REP. ANDREWS ANNOUNCES HOMELAND SECURITY GRANT TO AID WINSLOW TOWNSHIP FIRE DEPARTMENT WITH FIRE PREVENTION
On behalf of the First Congressional District of New Jersey, it is my pleasure to announce that Winslow Township will receive a $22,029 grant for Winslow Township's Fire District #1. The Fire Prevention grant award is administered by the Department of Homeland Security's Office for Domestic Preparedness in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration. The funding, which was awarded as part of he 37th round of federal funding from the 2004 Assistance to Firefighter Grant program, can be used by the Winslow Fire Department to address fire prevention and safety issues to reach high-risk target groups of American citizens including firefighters and senior citizens. The main goal of the grant award places great emphasis on preventing fire related injuries to our nation's children through educational activities. The Department is authorized to award fire prevention grants to fire departments like Winslow Township's Fire District #1 because they have continued to be recognized for their experience and expertise in providing fire prevention and safety programs to our community. I am pleased to have supported the initiative in Congress to reduce South Jersey's life and economic loss due to fire related emergencies. Because I believe it is imperative that America's firefighters possess the resources needed to protect our communities while effectively staying safe on the job, I will continue to work closely with South Jersey's fire community to meet their needs. Additionally, I commend the leadership of Winslow Township's Fire District # 1 for applying for this federal funding which will allow our South Jersey's firefighters to teach vital safety tactics to prevent fire related injuries to our residents and young children. I encourage all South Jersey municipalities to follow the example set forth by Winslow Township to apply for fire grant awards so that they too can usurp the benefits from federal funding and meet the needs of their individual fire departments.
