REP. ANDREWS ANNOUNCES $57,624 GRANT TO GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP EMS ALLIANCE

I am pleased to announce the award of $57,624 to the Gloucester Township EMS Alliance through the Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. This competitive grant was established through Congress to provide federal financial assistance to local fire departments in need of lifesaving equipment and unable to fund the expense. This is the first year the Department of Homeland Security has accepted applications from EMS departments. Fire and EMS departments within the First Congressional District of New Jersey have thus far received $1,129,159 in FY2005 and I am pleased to say that I have helped bring $5,381,605 home to our District since the program's inception.

With their Assistance to Firefighters Grant award, Gloucester Township EMS will be supplied with protective clothing to ensure the safety of their EMS technicians when responding to a crisis. In addition, Gloucester Township EMS has been awarded evacuation stair chairs to safely remove incapacitated victims down stairs and stretchers for transport to and from an ambulance.

I congratulate the heroic first responders of the Gloucester Township EMS Alliance on prevailing in this competition for these additional resources which will save countless lives.  I am pleased to have helped secure this funding and it is my ongoing mission to ensure all first responders in my District have the resources they need to perform their duties safely and effectively.
