House Passes the Jobs for Main Street Act
Posted by: Adam Schiff (12-17-2009, 01:18 PM)

With California’s unemployment rate still in the double digits, it is imperative that we continue to take steps to create jobs, and investing in our infrastructure will help get the economy growing again. That’s why I supported the jobs package on the House floor last night, that will invest $75 billion in mass transit, highways, and school construction and repair. The bill is fully funded by redirecting money already set aside for bailing out the financial system. I believe that this investment will create jobs today and pay dividends for decades to come.

Holiday Card Drive for Wounded Troops
Posted by: Adam Schiff (12-03-2009, 03:57 PM)

As the holidays approach, let's all take a moment to reflect on the fact that many American service members are separated from their family and friends, either serving overseas or recovering from injuries. To help brighten their holiday season, I'm coordinating a holiday card drive with schools in the 29th district. Students are making holiday cards for our troops to thank them for all they do for us, and I'll be delivering the cards to our men and women in uniform at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. The card drive is open to anyone in the district who wants to participate. To take part, either purchase or make a holiday card with a written message of thanks to a service member. The cards should be unaddressed with an unsealed envelope and should be dropped off or sent to my Pasadena office (87 N. Raymond Ave, Suite 800, Pasadena 91103) by December 11th.

Upcoming Telephone Townhall
Posted by: Adam Schiff (10-20-2009, 01:30 PM)

Next week, I'll be hosting another in my series of Telephone Townhalls.  As many of you know, these calls are a great way to ask questions about my work in Washington and the issues we're dealing with in Congress.  The call is scheduled for 6:40 PM PT on Wednesday, October 28th.  To participate, call 877-229-8493 and enter the PIN 13157 when prompted.  As always, I'll be taking questions over the course of an hour.  I hope you can participate.

MATCH Act editorial in the Pasadena Star-News
Posted by: Adam Schiff (09-22-2009, 11:50 AM)

The Pasadena Star-News published an excellent editorial making the case for the Managing Arson Through Criminal History (MATCH) Act.  The MATCH Act is legislation I introduced to create a national registry of arsonists to help investigators track down criminals.  As the Star-News says, part of the impetus for this legislation was an experience I had as a federal prosecutor.  There was an offender commiting serial arson in national forests, and it was only once we caught him that we realized that he had a past conviction for the same behavior.  With the MATCH Act, there would have been a database, available only to law enforcement, and I believe we would have caught him more quickly and before he caused as much damage as he did.
