WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) along with Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor today announced $978,000 in grants and loans to provide Independence County with a safe, sanitary water source.
The funds, from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Development Project, will be used to update Independence County’s existing water system. Due to the county’s growth, the current system can no longer meet the requirements set by the Arkansas State Health Department. These funds will be used to install a 200,000 gallon elevated water storage tank necessary to provide this rural area with a clean source of water.
The funds will be split between a loan of $547,000 and a grant of $431,000.
