Rep. Berry Announces $1.5 Million for Women’s Center at the
White River Medical Facility

WASHINGTON – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st), along with Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, today announced $1,500,000 to Independence County for the construction of a Women’s Center at the White River Medical Center Facility.

“Arkansas has a comparatively high infant mortality rate, high teen pregnancy rate and a lack of prenatal care.  The proposed Women’s Center will provide educational, diagnostic and therapeutic programs that specifically target these public health issues,” Berry said. “Access to quality health care is a fundamental building block to the balanced expansion and continued development of rural communities.”

The White River Medical Center offers quality health care to residents of north-central Arkansas and was ranked the number one provider of hospital care for residents of Independence, Izard, Sharp and Stone counties. The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Economic Development Administration.
