WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st), along with Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln, announced more than $1 million in grants to multiple counties for improvements to area airports.
“Infrastructure is the lifeblood of rural America,” Berry said. “Improving our rural airports is a necessary step as the counties of Arkansas’ First Congressional District continue to be a place families and businesses want to stay and grow.”
The grants come from the Federal Aviation Administration and cover a variety of improvements:
Cleburne County
· Heber Springs Municipal Airport will receive $354,635 to acquire land for the approach to Runway 5 in order to ensure the safety of those working on the ground. The funds will also be used for guidance signs and to rehabilitate and upgrade runway lighting.
Mississippi County
· Osceola Municipal Airport will receive $655,500 to widen and overlay runway 1/19 to meet new standards and to prevent further deterioration of the pavement preserve the current taxiway lighting system.
Lonoke County
· Carlisle Municipal Airport will receive $96,786 to construct taxiways to provide access to T-Hangars.
