Rep. Berry and Senators Lincoln and Pryor Announce
Tornado Early Warning System for Madison, AR
 
WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) joined Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, to announce a $15,000 grant to the city of Madison, AR (St. Francis County) to help protect its citizens from tornados.

 

The grant comes from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Program. The funds will be used for the purchase and installation of an early warning siren system to warn area residents of danger of tornados and other severe storms.

 

Compared with other states, Arkansas ranks number 16th for frequency of tornadoes, 4th for number of deaths, 5th for injuries and 17th for cost of damages. Between 1950 and 1995 Arkansas had 878 tornadoes with 281 fatalities during the same time period.
