Congressmen Berry, Senators Lincoln and Pryor Announce
More than $500,000 for Head Start

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressmen Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) along with U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) and Mark Pryor (D-AR) announced today $569,597 in Head Start grants for Pocahontas, AR.

“I am glad to see Head Start recognize the importance of their programs in Rural America as much as in Urban America with this grant,” Congressman Berry said. “Head Start is too vital to our communities to go unnoticed, especially in Northeast Arkansas. With these funds, we will continue to help our children achieve the lofty goals we know they are capable of attaining.”

"This is good news for young children and families in Pocahontas who will benefit from the critical services made available though this grant," Senator Blanche Lincoln said. "The educational and health care services provided through Head Start are vital to early childhood development and I couldn't be more pleased this funding has been approved."

Senator Pryor said, "I am pleased that this grant will be used to recruit and retain new teachers and allow Mid Delta Community Services to continue providing invaluable services that ensure our children stay on the right track and acquire the developmental skills needed to enter school ready and able to learn."

The funds, secured from the Department of Health and Human Services, will cover cost-of-living increases for Head Start teachers and general quality improvement funds including monies to train new Head Start teachers.
