Rep. Berry and Senators Lincoln and Pryor Announce
More than $5 Million for Rural Development

WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) joined Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, to announce $5 million in loans and a grant for $91,310 for rural development in Cross and Independence Counties, respectively.

Cross County Rural Water System will receive a $5 million loan to construct three new water softening treatment plants and one new auxiliary well. The new facilities will improve water quality and reduce water loss within Cross County’s service area. Currently, the system is struggling due to extreme water hardness.

Independence County’s White River Planning and Development District has been awarded a $91,310 rural business enterprise grant to expand the current Geographical Information System. The system provides geographical, population and other data in order to assist business and economic development.

Both the grant and the loan are made available through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development project.
