Congressional Delegation Announces Over $40 Million in HUD Funding for Arkansas

 
WASHINGTON – Arkansas will receive over $40.4 million in grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, members of the Arkansas Congressional delegation announced today.

The release of the funds was announced jointly by U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representatives Marion Berry, Vic Snyder, John Boozman, and Mike Ross.

HUD grant allocations for Fiscal Year 2003 for the state of Arkansas were awarded in the following amounts:

$22.496 million in a "Community Development Block Grant" (CDBG) for construction of water and wastewater facilities and public health facilities;

$13.871 million in "Home Investment Partnership Program" (HOME) funds to provide rental assistance, construct new housing units, and to convert non-residential units into affordable housing for low to moderate income tenants.

$1.08 million in "Emergency Shelter Grant" (ESG) funding to be awarded to non-profit emergency shelters, transitional housing for the homeless, and homelessness prevention.

$741,000 in "Housing Opportunities for Persons with Aids" (HOPWA) funding to provide housing assistance to persons living with AIDS or related diseases and their families.

In addition, the city of Fort Smith will receive HUD grants in the following amounts:

$1.034 in a CDBG for health services, emergency shelters, crisis programs, public facilities, and single-family housing rehabilitation

$552,429 in HOME Program funds for the Fort Smith Public Housing Authority, the Crawford Sebastian Community Development Council, and Lend-a-Hand Community Housing Development Organizations, for housing acquisition, housing rehabilitation, and home-buyer down payment assistance.
