WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Marion Berry (D-Ar, 1st) along with U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor announced multiple fire departments in Arkansas' First Congressional District will receive $157,919 in grants from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Fire Prevention and Safety Grant (FP&S) program.
The Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety Program includes training, wellness and fitness, firefighting equipment, personal protective equipment, and modifications to fire stations and facilities. The following departments have been awarded grants:
First Congressional District:
· Butlerville Volunteer Fire Department; Ward, AR - $49,500 for a firefighting vehicle
· Union Hill – Thida Volunteer Fire Department; Bradford, AR - $21,735 for operations and firefighter safety
· Austin Volunteer Fire Department; Austin, AR - $49,410 for operations and firefighter safety
· Bethesda Area Rural Fire & Community Development Association; Batesville, AR - $37,274 for operations and firefighter safety
