Berry Secures $547,000 for Baxter Regional Airport

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Marion Berry (D-AR, 1st) announced today a $574,000 grant for Baxter County Regional Airport to bring back commercial air service to that airport.

“The Small Community Air Service Pilot Program grant will enable Baxter County to return air service to a community who is ready and willing to welcome it,” said Berry.  “The airport lost air service largely due to lack of confidence in air travel after the tragedy of 9/11 and this grant will bring back jobs, commerce and growth to Baxter County, Northern Arkansas and the entire state. The people of Baxter County worked hard to secure this grant and they deserve the applause.”

The Small Community air service development pilot program was first authorized by the Wendell H. Ford Aviation Investment and Reform Act of 2000.  This program allows for 40 grants per year to go to airports for various needs ranging from advertising assistance to airlines, air service recruitment, service sustainability and retention.

This grant will provide the incentive to attract a quality air carrier into an underserved community.
