Arkansas Delegation Members Announce $247,815 for

West Memphis Transportation

WASHINGTON – Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln, along with Congressman Marion Berry, today announced that West Memphis has received a grant of $247, 815 to help the city fund its ongoing Job Access project.  Through the project, the Memphis Area Transit Authority will provide transportation for three fixed routes.

“This grant will give West Memphis residents better access to employment opportunities by providing transportation to and from work,” Pryor said.  “This is an important step in promoting economic growth within the area.”

"Transportation is key to economic development across our state," Lincoln said.

"One of the biggest problems for low income workers is transportation to and from work.  This grant will help alleviate that problem, and it will surely help grow the economy in Crittenden County," Berry said.

The grant was awarded by the Federal Transit Administration’s Job Access and Reverse Commute Program, which is designed to make more jobs available to low income individuals and welfare recipients and to transport them to and from work.
