Arkansas Delegation Members Announce Grant for
Horseshoe Bend Firefighters

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Mark Pryor and Blanche Lincoln, along with U.S. Representative Marion Berry, today announced the Horseshoe Bend fire department will receive a $58, 034 federal grant from the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFGP) under its Operations and Firefighter Safety Program.

“We must provide the equipment, training, and facilities necessary to protect our firefighters as they bravely protect us,” said Pryor.  “I commend the Horseshoe Bend firefighters for their courageous work and will continue to support programs that keep them safe and secure.”

"Local firefighters in rural areas face incredible challenges in funding their equipment needs so that they can provide the best possible service to their communities," Lincoln said. "These Homeland Security grants are an excellent way for them to acquire the equipment they need to ensure public safety in their communities."

"Local fire departments are the first line of defense in the war against terror, and therefore it is imperative we do everything possible to make sure they have the resources needed to be adequately prepared.  This grant to the Horseshoe Bend Fire Department will help achieve that goal."

The AFGP awards one-year grants to support the nation’s firefighters and the services they deliver.  Funding from the Operations and Firefighter Safety Program helps provide training, personal protective equipment, wellness and fitness, and fire station improvement.
