Arkansas Delegation Announces $1,054,140
in Fire Protection Grants
 
WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor, along with U.S. Reps. Marion Berry, Vic Snyder, Mike Ross, and John Boozman announced Wednesday that nine fire departments in Arkansas have been awarded $1,054,140 in grants from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

 

This program provides support to fire departments by providing the tools and resources necessary to ensure both the safety of department personnel and the general public.  Grant funds are used to enhance firefighting operations, develop firefighter health and safety programs, acquire new equipment and vehicles, enhance EMS programs, and conduct fire prevention and safety programs. 

 

The following departments have been awarded grants for Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety:

 

  • Rector – $29,196
  • Little Rock – $429,800
  • McAlmont (North Little Rock)— $35,243
  • Fort Smith – $230,895
  • Morning Star (Hot Springs)  -- $22,973
  • Point Cedar (Bismark) – $25,034

 

 The following department was awarded a Fire Prevention grant:

 

·         Trumann– $35,550

 

 The following department was awarded a grant to purchase a firefighting vehicle:

 

·         South Bend (Jacksonville) – $152,629

 

 

The following department was awarded a grant for Emergency Medical Services:

 

·         Fayetteville – $92,820

 

These awards are part of the 26th round of grant announcements.  To date, over 6,800 fire departments have received almost $517 million to support their role as first responders in the neighborhoods and communities they serve as firefighters.
