Financial Services Committee Initiates Examination of Credit Union Issues and Need for Reforms
Washington, DC—The House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing on the need for credit union regulatory relief and improvements on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. This hearing will provide a comprehensive examination of the need for regulatory relief among credit unions, including the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act, as well as many other issues within the industry.
“This hearing will help the Committee examine the need for regulation and legislation within the credit union industry. The last major piece of legislation specifically affecting the sector passed in Congress almost ten years ago,” said Congressman Kanjorski, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Capital Markets, Insurance, and Government Sponsored Enterprises. “I, along with Congressman Royce, introduced the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act in 2007. Among other issues, we will discuss the need for this legislation and the effects it could have on credit unions and their members.”
