Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit to Hold Hearing on the Financial Consumer Hotline Act of 2007
Washington, DC – Rep. Carolyn Maloney (NY-14), Chair of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit, announced today that the subcommittee will hold a hearing on the “Financial Consumer Hotline Act of 2007,” to establish a single, toll-free telephone number that consumers can call if they have a problem with their bank and want to speak to the appropriate bank regulator. The subcommittee will hear from both consumer groups and bank regulators.
Subcommittee Chairwoman Maloney said, “A number of different governing bodies currently regulate banks, which can make it difficult for consumers to figure out who they should contact with concerns and complaints. One number could help cut down on the confusion and put consumers in quicker contact with the appropriate regulator. I look forward to hearing from our witnesses on this important consumer issue.”
