Several Lake County law enforcement agencies on Monday announced new efforts to combat a rise in gang activity, releasing a list of men they consider the area's 10 most-wanted gang members.
Special Agent Andy Traver of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives said the razing of large public housing projects in Chicago in recent years left some gang members in need of a place to go. The northern suburbs became an appealing place for gangs to relocate and spread, said Traver.
Officials hope posting the identities of alleged gang members charged with crimes will increase tips leading to arrest.
Topping the most-wanted list is Jose Pedro Delgado, who is charged with murder.
Also on the list isEdward Perez, 20, of Gurnee, charged with murder; Arturo Hernandez, 24, of North Chicago, charged with aggravated battery with a firearm; Alejandro Ramirez, 28, of Mundelein, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon; Shariff Bryant, 25, of North Chicago, charged with aggravated battery with a firearm; Derek Gordon, 29, of Waukegan, charged with multiple drug offenses; Luis Pena, 17, of Mundelein, charged with battery to a police officer; Rafael Juarez, 18, of Mundelein, charged with burglary; William Earl Gist, 26, of Beach Park, charged with aggravated battery; and Cordale Handy, 20, of Waukegan, charged with carjacking.
