Amount Requested: $4,896,000 The funds will be used by the Town of Burns Harbor for the improvement and reconstruction of 2.1 miles of Old Porter Road. The project will include the construction of two 13-foot lanes of roadway, curb and gutter, storm sewer, lighting, driveway aprons and intersectional upgrades. Right and left turn lanes may be added to the intersection of Old Porter Road and State Road (SR) 149 if they are justified in the traffic analysis study. The estimated cost of the project will include the construction as well as the design, engineering and inspection. This project will allow Burns Harbor to better plan the commercial district near the intersection of SR149 and US Route 20, will help to better facilitate traffic throughout the corridor, will allow the parcels on the south side of US 20 near SR 149 to become more attractive to developers and increase the tax base for the community, will allow some of the existing businesses to utilize Old Porter Road for customer traffic without causing delays on US 20, and will help to properly drain and direct stormwater to areas where it can percolate into the ground or be returned to Salt Creek.
