Conduct environmental reviews, plan, acquire right-of-way, design, engineer, and reconstruct roadway improvements to widen 109th Avenue, Crown Point, IN

Amount Requested: $1,764,000
The funding will be used by the City of Crown Point to make capacity and transportation safety improvements to 109th Avenue, from its intersection with Interstate 65 to the intersection with State Road (SR) 53 (Broadway).  The project will widen the existing two lane roadway, add concrete curbing, install storm drainage systems and street lighting, extend a large drainage culvert over Beaver Dam Ditch, relocate a section of a Buckeye Gas Pipeline, and install a new traffic signal at the Delaware Parkway intersection for better access to the Purdue Technology Center.  The project will conduct environmental reviews, plan, acquire right-of-way, design, engineer, construct and reconstruct roadway improvements.  The project has regional and national significance as it supports the Interstate Transportation system at the new 109th Avenue interchange.  I-65 is the primary north/south national thoroughfare route in the Northwest Indiana region.  This project provides for efficient dispersion of exiting traffic as well as providing a traffic connection to SR 53, which is a primary commercial and transportation corridor for Lake County.  The reconstruction of 109th Avenue will provide for capacity and safety improvements to the corridor and will increase mobility within South Lake County and relieve congestion on currently overburdened transportation routes.
Recipient Address: City of Crown Point, 101 North East Street, Crown Point, IN 46307
