The funding will be used by the City of Hobart to complete Phase 3 of the 61st Avenue project to expand capacity and reconstruct the roadway, from Arizona Street to State Road 51. The project will include engineering, design, environmental review, acquiring right-of-way, and the reconstruction of the roadway. This project will increase safety and decrease congestion by adding a center turn lane, installing a traffic signal at Wisconsin Street, and allowing emergency vehicles enhanced access to Saint Mary’s Hospital. This project lies within the city’s 61st Avenue Tax Increment Financing District and the project’s improvements will assist in the city’s capability to market currently unimproved land along the corridor. Further, the project promotes pedestrian travel through the construction of sidewalks in an area where none previously exist, both decreasing emissions and leading to a healthier community.
