Amount Requested: $3,600,000
The funding will be used by the Lake County Board of Commissioners to complete Phase 2 of the 45th Avenue project from Whitcomb Street to Cleveland Avenue. The project will widen the roadway into a three-lane surface consisting of one 12-foot-wide through lane in each direction separated by a 16-foot-wide, two-way, left-turn lane. Concrete curbs and gutters will border the roadway. In addition, new sidewalks will be constructed on both the north and south sides of 45th Avenue, new street lighting will be installed on the south side roadway, and new storm sewers and roadside drainage will be constructed. The widened and improved roadway will provide congestion relief, increase public safety for vehicles and pedestrians, improve storm water runoff control to mitigate flooding conditions and improve water quality. Further, by improving the east-west connection within Lake County, it will provide for a better opportunity for economic development in the project area.
