SERVICE ACADEMY NIGHT APRIL 10TH
Students, Parents, Counselors Encouraged to Attend to Learn About Military Service Academies

Little Rock – Congressman Vic Snyder, in cooperation with the U.S. Service Academies, will host a Service Academy Information Session at Little Rock's Central High School auditorium on April 10th at 6:30 p.m. Congressman Snyder will be in attendance to welcome interested high school students and their families, along with representatives from both Senator Lincoln and Pryor’s offices and the five service academies.

“Attending a military service academy is a great opportunity for many young men and women,” said Congressman Vic Snyder. “I encourage any student or parent who is interested to come to the Academy Night to learn more about what our U.S. Service Academies have to offer.”

The Academy Night will offer high school students and their families information on the academies, how to apply to receive an academy nomination, and more.  Brief presentations from academy representatives and informational material will be available. The five U.S. Service Academies are: the Military Academy in West Point, NY; the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO; the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT; and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY.

Each year, Members of Congress may recommend a select group of young persons for admission to the U.S. service academies. To be considered for an appointment, an applicant must be between the ages of 17 and 23 (25 for Merchant Marines), a citizen of the United States, unmarried with no dependents, medically and physically fit, and have a strong academic background and test scores.  Graduates of the service academies are required to serve as a commissioned officer for at least five years upon graduation.
