LINCOLN, PRYOR, SNYDER TO HOST MILITARY ACADEMY WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and U.S. Representative Vic Snyder will host a military service academy information night on Thursday, April 20th from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at the Legends Room at UALR’s Jack Stephens Center in Little Rock. Congressman Snyder will be in attendance to welcome interested high school students and their families, along with representatives from both Senators’ offices and the five service academies. The Academy Night will offer high school students and parents interested in the U.S. service academies information on the academies, how to apply to receive an academy nomination, and more. Brief presentations from service representatives, and informational material for all five academies: the Military Academy in West Point, NY; the Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO; the Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT; and the Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY will be available. Each year, Members of Congress have the privilege of recommending a select group of people for admission to the U.S. service academies. To be considered for an appointment to a service academy, an applicant must be between the ages of 17 and 23 (25 for Merchant Marines), a citizen of the United States, unmarried with no dependents, medically and physically fit, and have a strong academic background and test scores. Graduates of the service academies are required to serve as a commissioned officer for at least five years upon graduation.
