September 25, 2006—Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) received the Club for Growth’s First Annual Defender of Economic Freedom Award. This award is determined by the Congressmen’s voting records regarding free market principles and pro-growth policies. A score of 1-100 is given to each Member of Congress, 100 being the very highest. Congressman Franks was 1 of 7 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives to receive a flawless score.

Club for Growth President, Pat Toomey said, “With his perfect score, Congressman Franks is clearly a hero of the pro-growth agenda.” He continued, “We hope that in each year to come, support for commonsense, economic principles will continue to grow, allowing more Members to earn this award.”

Congressman Franks stated, “I appreciate the award, but it really is the American people who are rewarded when Members of Congress support initiatives that encourage deregulation, growth, entrepreneurship, consumer empowerment, and ingenuity. This has been the goal of the President’s tax cuts and the Republican Party’s agenda. Our economy is doing very well right now, and it is to the credit of the hardworking American people.”

 Trent Franks is the Congressman from the 2nd Congressional District of Arizona.  He is a member of the House Armed Services Committee, the House Judiciary Committee and Vice Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee
