(Washington, DC) - Congressman Herger issued the following statement of congratulations to the Yuba County Water Agency (YCWA) after being honored as one of the “Outstanding Stewards of America’s Waters” by the National Hydropower Association for their work on the lower Yuba River Accord. Yuba County Supervisor John Nicoletti, Yuba County Water Agency Director Sid Muck, and Yuba County Water Agency General Manager Curt Aikens were on hand in Washington DC this week to accept this prestigious award:
“Only four water organizations nationwide were honored with this award and I’m pleased to see the YWCA receive the recognition they deserve for their leadership and innovation. As California sets into its third year of drought, we need to be doing all we can to stretch such this critical resource as far as possible to meet the needs of all users and YCWA has done outstanding work on the lower Yuba River Accord. The collaborative approach that the YCWA has implemented is a model of success.”
Background:
The lower Yuba River Accord is a comprehensive agreement among 17 stakeholders on the lower Yuba River to increase instream flows for salmon and steelhead, balance hydropower generation, provide irrigation water supplies, and improve recreational benefits while protecting local water rights. The Accord also provides a new revenue source from water transfers for YCWA to finance flood control, fisheries management, conjunctive use, and water management projects.
