Radanovich Supports Republican Budget

Refuses to Raise Taxes, Tackles Entitlement Reform

3/13/08

WASHINGTON – Congressman George Radanovich (R-Mariposa) released the following statement after voting against the largest tax increase in American history in the form of the Democrat’s Budget Resolution:

"Today, the American taxpayers’ pocketbooks took another hit with the approval of the Democrat’s Budget Resolution. The Democrats’ budget imposes a $638 billion tax increase over the next five years, promotes a $82 billion discretionary spending increase, fails to address the entitlement spending crisis, and neglects to fully fund our brave troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"By contrast, the Republican budget that I voted for does not raise taxes, balances the federal budget in five years, fully funds the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, eliminates pork barrel earmarks saving $14.8 billion, and takes significant steps in reforming Medicaid and Medicare—entitlement spending that will bankrupt the American economy if not fixed.

"I am proud to have supported a fiscally responsible budget that is strong on national security and starts the tough work of reforming our broken entitlement programs. Unfortunately for the American people, the majority in Congress doesn’t seem to think these are priorities.
