WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today Congresswoman Lois Capps (D-CA) was joined by 10 Congresswomen in honoring the contributions of women in the military. This is the ninth year the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues has hosted an annual ceremony to recognize the courage and achievements of our servicewomen and women veterans and to pay tribute to women who have died while protecting our nation.
As part of the ceremony, five senior female non-commissioned officers (NCOs) from the Air Force, the Army, the Coast Guard, the Marines, and the Navy were honored for their outstanding service. The ceremony was held at the Women in Military Service for America Memorial in Arlington National Cemetery.
“As we observe Memorial Day this year, one that will be particularly difficult in light of the losses we continue to experience in Iraq and Afghanistan, I hope that we take special care to remember women serving in our military,” said Capps. “I was honored to join my fellow Congresswomen today in recognizing the tremendous contributions of our servicewomen and women veterans. This annual bipartisan event serves as an important reminder of the bravery and sacrifice demonstrated by our women in the military and the essential role they play in defending our country.”
Congresswoman Capps is the Vice-Chair of the House Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues.
