HARMAN REACTS TO NEWS OF FALLON RESIGNATION

Says “military has lost a wise and seasoned voice”

March 11, 2008

Washington, D.C. Washington, DC – Representative Jane Harman (CA-36), Chair of the Homeland Security Intelligence Subcommittee, released the following statement in response to news that Admiral William J. Fallon, the top U.S. commander for the Middle East, has resigned:

News of Bill Fallon’s resignation should trump the extended feeding frenzy over Eliot Spitzer.

The military has lost a wise and seasoned voice.

A military axiom is the need to speak truth to power.  And it still seems that smart people who do, end their careers.

Having met with General Fallon just a few weeks ago in Dubai, I am shocked and deeply saddened by this unexpected news.
