Bill Congratulates Boys' Basketball Team for Winning State Championship Washington, DC – Yesterday, Rep. Joe Baca (D-Rialto) introduced legislation in the House of Representatives that congratulates Eisenhower High School in Rialto, California, for winning the State championship in boys’ basketball. The resolution, H. Res. 321, recognizes the Eagles for their victory over the Rocklin Thunder in the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Division 2 championship game on March 20, 2009. “I congratulate the Eisenhower Eagles for their great run to the State championship, and thank them for their courageous efforts,” said Rep. Baca. “This historic win marks the first ever CIF State title for a school from San Bernardino County. All of the players, coaches, parents, and school administrators involved in this wonderful achievement are deserving of this Congressional recognition.” Eisenhower’s remarkable run to the State title came after an outstanding 28-3 regular season, and included playoff victories over two state powerhouses: Loyola and Leuzinger. Eisenhower head coach, Steve Johnson, has led the Eagles program back to greatness only 2 years after returning from a coaching hiatus. “Everyone said they were too small, but Eisenhower’s tenacity, speed, and relentless defensive efforts led them to a decisive win in the championship game,” concluded Rep. Baca. “Especially in these times of economic hardship, our entire Inland community is grateful for the hope and sense of pride this achievement has brought.” # # # |
