Baca Receives Award From Rialto Police for Commitment to Public Safety

Lauded for Efforts in Obtaining Federal Funds to Enhance Police Personnel, Equipment

Washington, DCEarlier this week, Congressman Joe Baca (D-Rialto) received an award of recognition from the Rialto Police Department for his dedication to the Inland community, and his continued success in obtaining federal funding for police personnel and technological equipment to assist the City of Rialto.

The award was presented to Rep. Baca at the Rialto City Council meeting held on Tuesday, August 11, 2009, by Rialto Police Chief Mark Kling.

“I am honored to receive this award from the Rialto Police Department,” said Rep. Baca.  “We have no greater responsibility in government then ensuring the continued safety and security of the American people.  I look forward to continuing my efforts in Congress to bring home the necessary funding to support law enforcement in the Inland Empire.”

Congressman Baca secured $300,000 in the Fiscal Year 2010 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies appropriations bill for the purchase of new surveillance cameras to be used by the Rialto Police Department to enhance public safety.  In addition, Rep. Baca voted in favor of H.R. 1, the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.  This legislation provides $11.21 million to cities in the 43rd Congressional District, to hire 34 new police officers over the next three years.  Rep. Baca was the only Member of the Inland Congressional delegation to support the Recovery Act.

“Due to our state’s terrible budget crisis, too many law enforcement agencies have had to work with less and less resources,” concluded Rep. Baca.  “Now more than ever, decisive federal leadership is needed to get more police into our communities and bring home life-saving resources.  I am proud to receive this recognition from the City of Rialto, and will continue to work to ensure the safety of our schools, our streets, and our neighborhoods.”
