Rep. Baca Continues to Lead Fight Against Breast Cancer |

Washington, DC – Congressman Joe Baca (D-CA) today introduced H.R. 1064, legislation that would provide substantial funding for breast cancer research by extending sales of the Breast Cancer Research Stamp. The stamp, which was first introduced in 1998, sells for 45 cents and is used for first-class mail in lieu of a 39-cent stamp. The surcharge helps fund breast cancer research. To date almost $53 million has been raised for research programs at the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense. Rep Baca said, “The stamp has been highly successful, both by raising tens of millions of dollars for important research and by raising public awareness of the ongoing need to fight a disease that affects millions of American women and their families. I am proud to introduce legislation that will allow sales of the stamp to continue.” Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) yesterday introduced identical legislation in the Senate, S. 597. # # # |
