House Passes Baca Resolution Calling for Greater Recognition of Veterans Day

Resolution Calls for Reflection, Education on the Contributions of Veterans

Washington, DCToday, the House of Representatives approved legislation introduced by Congressman Joe Baca (D-Rialto) that calls for greater recognition and support of the Veterans Day Holiday.  H. Res. 89 passed the House by a unanimous vote.

“Veterans Day is not just another day off of school or work,” said Rep. Baca.  “It is a special day of reflection to honor and remember those who have defended our country.  I thank my colleagues for supporting today’s resolution, and encouraging greater recognition and education of the sacrifices made by countless veterans over the years.”

H. Res. 89 supports the greater recognition of Veterans Day by: encouraging Americans to demonstrate their support for veterans each year by treating the Holiday as a special day of reflection, and by encouraging schools and teachers to educate our children about the many contributions that veterans have made to our society – both during and after their service in the military.

“As an Army veteran myself, I am all too aware of the hardships our military men and women and their families endure to protect our country,” added Rep. Baca.  “I introduced this legislation because I believe we should never forget America’s true heroes.  We must reflect on the meaning of Veterans Day, and remember the sacrifices made by so many proud American sons and daughters.”

Rep. Baca is a veteran who served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper with both the 101st and the 82nd Airborne Divisions from 1966-68.

“When our veterans return from duty, they and their families deserve the very best in benefits from the United States,” concluded Rep. Baca.  “I am proud to have authored this resolution, calling for greater recognition of the Veterans Day holiday, and I am also proud of our work in Congress to improve the care of our nation’s veterans.  We have made the largest investment in history to veterans’ health and have enacted a new, 4 year G.I. bill to give our post 9-11 troops the education benefits they deserve.  This Veterans Day, let us all honor the sacrifices made by so many to keep us safe.”
