Bilbray Statement on Saving University City Post Office

Washington D.C.--North County Congressman Brian Bilbray has released the following statement on the removal of the University City Post Office from the Post Office's closure list:

"It is great news that we were able to save the University City Post Office," said Congressman Bilbray. "There are many people throughout University City, and San Diego, who have come to know the University City Post Office as a trusted post office providing nothing less than excellent service. My office met with many passionate supporters, and I'm happy the Post Office made the right decision."

The University City Post Office had been included on a list of 10 post offices throughout San Diego County, and 677 facilities throughout the nation, that were slated for closure or consolidation due to financial losses and lower mail volume. The Post Office is looking to save further costs by offering early retirement to 150,000 employees and examining the cost-saving measure of five-day-a-week delivery as opposed to the current six-day-a-week delivery schedule.
