Financial Services Committee to Hold Hearing on Section 8 Voucher Reform Act

Washington, DC - Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), chairman of the House Financial Services Committee, announced today the committee will hold a hearing on Thursday, May 21, entitled “The Section 8 Voucher Reform Act.” The Honorable Shaun Donovan, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, will be testifying.

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), chairwoman of the Financial Services Subcommittee on Housing and Community Opportunity, said: “Last Congress, I introduced the Section 8 Voucher Reform Act, legislation that was long overdue to improve and expand the Section 8 housing choice voucher program, which provides housing opportunities for 2 million low-income families. This legislation passed the House on a bipartisan vote of 333-83 and is still needed today.” Chairwoman Waters continued, “I am pleased that HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan will be sharing his views on this critical legislation. I welcome the opportunity to work with him to ensure that the Section 8 Voucher Reform Act becomes law.”

Chairwoman Waters will also hold a second hearing on this legislation within the next few weeks. That hearing will include testimony from housing authorities, Section 8 residents, housing advocates, and others with an interest in the Section 8 program.
