Congressman Adam Putnam today announced two seminars for students interested in being nominated for selection to the U.S. military service academies for the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines or Navy.
Hillsborough County Tuesday, September 15, 2009 Fine Arts Center 619 Vonderburg Drive Brandon, FL 33511 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
Polk County Tuesday, September 22, 2009 Lakeland High School 726 Hollingsworth Road Lakeland, FL 33801 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (Enter the High School through the 98 South/Bartow Road Entrance)
To be considered for appointment to a service academy, an applicant must have a nomination from an authorized nominating source, such as a Member of Congress or the Vice President.
“It is my privilege as a Member of Congress,” Putnam said, “to provide our U.S. Military Academies with nominees who are the best and brightest young people our communities have to offer.”
Selection to a military academy is extremely competitive. The seminars will provide high school students with information about the nomination process, the military academies and career opportunities following graduation and commissioning as an officer.
Since 2001, Putnam has represented Florida’s 12th Congressional District, which includes most of Polk County and portions of Hillsborough and Osceola counties.
