Buchanan to Examine Tax Simplification for Small Business

Bradenton CPA to Testify Before House Subcommittee
May 5, 2009

Washington, DC -- Congressman Vern Buchanan will examine on Thursday how the complex tax code hurts the ability of small businesses to survive and expand.  Buchanan has invited a Bradenton accountant to testify before the House Small Business Subcommittee on Finance and Tax regarding the need to simplify the current tax system.

“Small businesses are grappling with complicated tax provisions,” said Buchanan.  “Compliance is tedious and expensive. They deserve better -- especially in the current economy.  Small businesses are our biggest job creators.  We should make it easier for entrepreneurs to start and grow their companies by simplifying the tax code. ”

As the vice chairman of the Subcommittee, Buchanan has invited Stam Stathis, an accountant with CPA Associates in Bradenton to testify during the hearing.   Stathis is an expert in small business financial planning and consulting.

“Working with many small businesses, he is in a position to talk to the committee about the intricacies of the tax code and their impact on small business,” said Buchanan.

The hearing, entitled “How the Complexity of the Tax Code Hinders Small Businesses,” will be held in 2360 Rayburn House Office Building at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 7, 2009.
