CONGRESSMAN HANK JOHNSON

Georgia's Fourth Congressional District

Chief of Staff Satcher departs for Commerce Department

May 8, 2009

WASHINGTON -- Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) announced May 8 that his Chief of Staff Daraka Satcher is leaving his office to work as a deputy assistant secretary for the Commerce Department.

Satcher has been with Johnson since he first took office in 2007.

“While I’m excited for Daraka as he moves on to a new stage in his career, it will be difficult – if not impossible – to replace him,” said Johnson. “His counsel, composure and knowledge of Capitol Hill have been invaluable to me. He has not just served me well, but all residents of Georgia’s Fourth District. He will be much and sorely missed, but we wish him all the best.”

Satcher, a 1996 graduate of Morehouse College and 1999 graduate of Emory School of Law, began his Washington, D.C. career in 2000 as a legislative assistant for Rep. John Spratt (D-S.C.).

He later served as a legislative assistant for Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MICH) and as former Rep. Harold Ford’s (D-TN) legislative director from 2005-2006.

“My time in this office has been the best experience of my professional life,” said Satcher. “I wouldn’t leave this office for just any opportunity. I look forward to my new role at Commerce, but will always assist the Congressman in any way I can.”

Satcher last day in Johnson’s office is May 8. He begins his new post as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Legislative and Intergovernmental Affairs on May 11.
