Rep. Johnson’s statement on Supreme Court nominee Sotomayor
July 1, 2009
DECATUR, GA -- Congressman Hank Johnson (GA-04) spoke at news conference with DeKalb County Chief Executive Officer Burrell Ellis, other local elected officials and community leaders to urge the United States Senate to confirm Court of Appeals Judge Sonia Sotomayor, President Barack Obama’s nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court. Confirmation hearings begin Monday, July 13.
“I think President Obama has made a strong pick. Not only would she bring much-needed diversity to the bench, but her educational and professional qualifications are impeccable. I was sorry to see such ugly comments over her nomination coming from conservatives – both elected officials and talking heads – but I think it’s a reflection that it will be difficult to defeat her. I look forward to the Senate giving her a full and fair confirmation hearing.”
